Summary of Interests/Message
Looking for any information/1851/61
Census data for my John "Jack" Smith.
The only info I have is that he was
born in August 1848 in Ramsbottom, Bury.
I have not been able to locate his parents' names.
By 1870 he was in Missouri, USA.
Any help or suggestions appreciated.

* Sugden Smith, son of James Smith and Hannah (nee Shackleton) was born in Haworth, 1834 and baptised in 1835.
(previous census transcriptions have
incorrectly shown Sugden as "Snyder")
There are several Sugden Smiths showing in the LDS, all from Keighley or relatives of this Sugden Smith.

1861 Census:
James,Clogger, Widower, living in
Thornton, Yorkshire, with his two daughters:
**Susey (b:c1840) and Hannah (b:c1849)

**Susey Smith married John "Thomas" Brogden. One of her sons was called Edgar Smith Brogden.
I believe that the following data is
probably correct for James Smith......
James Smith born in 1804 in Haworth, the
son of William Smith and Hannah Sugden of
Haworth, Yorkshire
James's parents - William Smith and
Hannah Sugden were married in 1803.
(Note - James had named his second son
Sugden after his own mother's maiden name)

***1871 Census Data given below is of
the family of William Smith (eldest son
of James Smith & Hannah Shackleton).
Note that William had followed the same
example & gave the name Shackleton to
his second son, after his own mother's
maiden name.

1871 Census Civil Parish of Thornton, Yorks
William Smith, Head, b.c 1832 Haworth Yorks
Esther Smith, Wife, b.c 1832 Thornton Yorks
and their children, all born in Thornton Yorks
Emma Smith, Dau, b.abt 1852
John Smith, Son, abt 1855
Lannie Smith, Dau, abt 1857
Shackleton Smith, Son, abt 1858
Dan Smith Son, abt 1863
Ada Smith, Dau, abt 1865
Ann Smith, Dau, abt 1867
Sam Smith, Son, abt 1860

Also looking for more information on
Hannah Smith nee Shackleton,
b.c1808 Keighley,
married James Smith in Keighley c1829,
and had died at some time between
the 1851 and 1861 Census.

800 feet high in the Pennines, the home of the Parsonage where the Brontes spent much of their lives. At that time, a crowded industrial township, with a 118 percent population increase between 1801 and 1851 to 3,365. No sewers and a polluted, inadequate water supply contributed to a high mortality rate. 1,344 burials in the church yard between 1840-50, with average age at death 25 years; 41 percent of babies died before reaching age 6 years.....
