Summary of Interests/Message

I descend from Thomas Smith, blacksmith,
born about 1772, from
Heptonstall Slack,
Halifax, West
Riding of Yorkshire, who married Sarah Hartley (1771-1839).

Their daughter Betty Smith (my ancestor)
baptized September 27 1797,
married James Uttley

Thomas Smith was the son of Robert Smith (1745-1822) & Susan Horsfall.

I have not been able to find the baptism record for Robert Smith or the name of his parents.

I am also looking for more information on the related Uttley, Hartley and Horsfall families.

Summary of Interests/Message

Smiths of Dunkenhalgh & St Mary, Enfield.

I'm looking for a catholic Ann Smith, born in Clayton le Moors 1800/01 (from census entries)

My 3ggmother Ann Smith
m James Clough at Altham 1819,
baptised 3 daus at St Mary RC, Enfield.

Ann's witness at her marriage was a Mark Noble, and a Mark Noble was son in law to the family of Smiths of Clayton who are in the 1767 list of papists, so I think there should be some relationship.

I have been trying to eliminate Ann Smiths
(born late 1790s) from a list of possibilities
from that family, in order to connect mine
to the correct branch.

It now seems the most likely is Ann,
bpt 11 aug 1799 at Dunkenhalgh, Clayton,
dau of James and Ann Smith.

Though other remaining possibilities are:
Ann, 9 aug 1797, dau of Richard & Alice.
and  Ann, 1790, dau of John and Isabel Smith.

John & Richard above are brothers, sons
of Thomas Smith & Jennet Giles.

2 other sons of Thomas Smith and Jennet Giles were.......

William (his daughter Ann now eliminated from my search)
and
James who married an Ellen.
ie - not the James Smith who m Ann, &
who I think is the father of my Ann.
I do not know who this James is.

If anyone can definitely cross out
any
other of my Ann Smiths, I'd be
very happy,

I also have a Duxbury will in which Alexander
the smith, childless
, leaves
his property to his nephews, a family of Smiths. Will Smith becomes the next Smith on the Dunkenhalgh estate.

Summary of Interests/Message
My Great Grand Father Henry John Smith
lived with his grandparents Joseph and Lydia Smith appearing on 1841 census & thereafter.

Henry came to Australia in 1863 as a Baker. He married here in 1867.

Henry's parents who I thought must have died, are named on his wedding certificate as
George Smith and Jane Steele.
Henry died in 1899.

I had a George SMITH who lived out here (in the same town as Henry) who my father said was 'some sort of relation'. THIS George states on a certificate that he married Ellen Taylor on 16th June 1856 in Barnsley (she was from Gawber).

However numerous searches by various kind people have not been able to find this marriage. She was 12 years younger so it could be his second wife.

George and Ellen emigrated between 1856-58.

Any clues on where to find out more? I'm 95% sure it is the correct George.
