I am a cousin of Arthur Ward Swenson. On a Smith family web page it notes that: "Sadie Marguerite (Peggy) Newton was the first wife of Albert SMITH.
Sadie (Peggy) was married first to Arthur Ward Swenson. They married on March 14, 1931 in Burnaby, B.C. The ceremony was done by Rev. J. White and it was at 3:00 p.m. At the time, Peggy lived at 1813 Morton Avenue, Vancouver, B.C. and Ward was living at the Rialto Hotel in Vancouver, B.C. Peggy's attendent was Katherine (Billie) McDonald and Ward's attendent was his brother, Leslie W. Swenson." I am trying to track down any living descendants of Arthur Swenson or Leslie Swenson.

Robert Smith of Barshaw, Paisley, 1759-1841, subscribed to Mills Ancient Ordinances etc of the Isle of Man (1821). Since I've not 100% IDed his origins, could it be he came from the Isle of Man? He was well established as a thread manufacturer at Paisley by 1787.

I have just stumbled onto this site and pleased to find a Smith site. I expect to find it an excellent networking tool and am hopeful that I will find some common ancestors/ Descendants among other visitors as I start to explore it.
I have traced my Smith line in Liverpool and Walton-on-the-Hill back to 1790s so far, to James Smith. His son William Smith (Born circa 1815) married Margaret Voce in 1839 and had 5 Boys and 5 Girls(The Voces were Walton Farmers). William and his father James Smith were flour dealers and Bakers in Liverpool and have entries in the 1796,1821 and 1842 trade directories. Well done to the Site owners
Good Luck to all you "Smith" investigators

I was very interested to see the marriage of Jane Marsland, daughter of William Marsland, hatter, to James Smith in 1856. Jane is the sister of my great great grandfather, Joshua Marsland, and this is the first piece of information I've received on his siblings.

I can trace my roots to Ralph Smith of New Jersey, circa 1600's. Some sites say he was born in England others to Cape Cod and the Plymouth Colony. They were all sea captains and boat builders. The John Smith at Cape Cod is squetchy. I know THE John Smith was supposed to have borne no children ??

Greetings--my Ancestry.com account has led me to Captain John Smith (of Jamestown fame), but he is not known to have had any children through Pocahontas, at least not formally so. Yet the Smith and Hiatt families trace their lineage to a Peregrine Smith, allegedly the son of Captain Smith and Pocahontas. That is where my Ancestry.com account leads me. If true, then I am likewise descended from the "ancient Smiths of Crudley, Lancashire."

** Thanks Lucy - that's interesting about the Smith motto!! Hope you'll please register at Smith Chat (link at top of this page) and share your Scottish Smith interests on the Board "Other Counties of England, Scotland, Wales". Hoping for more Scottish Smith interests to be posted there, so that eventually can start a separate board for "Smiths of Scotland".
Hope to chat again to you there, at some time in the future.

I find the site difficult to use. I have put some information on the "new member site" and it appears to have ended up on thwe IoM site. All I want to do is to pass information to as wide a range of Smith descendants as possible. How do I do this? and how do I recieve a reply?

Hi kingskerswell
There has been some misunderstanding here. I think you must have posted this Guestbook message before reading my reply to you at Smith Chat. It was believed that your Smith/Morrison interests message would be more appropriately placed and moved to the Ireland board (not the Isle of Man Board, which is currently closed) and with a copy to the West Riding of Yorkshire Board. After long hours searching different sources with very limited free information I found your great site and certainly I will join the Chat Group soon. By the way, for ancestors in West Derby and Formby, will Liverpoool be the appropriate one?

My great grandfather was Edmund Whaley Smith and his birth certificate states that he was born in West Derby in 1849, the son of Thomas Seddon Smith (attornery at law) and Jane Whaley.

Edmund Whaley Smith had at least two brothers: Thomas Seddon and George. I know the family at some moment also lived in Formby before my great granfather Edmund Whaley Smith moved to Chile, South America before 1879.

I understand that Dora Hughes Smith (probably in her early tweenties in 1911 and resident of Liverpool at that time) can be related to the part of the family who stayed in England.

Any help will be appreciated. I hope to post a few more details soon in the Forums. Congratulations to all those who make this site possible.

What a lovely Site thanks for your message Carole, Iam connected to the late Thomas Smith born 25th May 1819 who came to Australia onboard the Vessel/Barge Hope 1837-1839 I have received information regarding this family from other ancestors, stating that Thomas's father was William Smith (farmer) Blackpool and mother was Martha Fitten. Other queries was that William Smith and a Nancy Collinson was Thoma's father and mother. William Smiths father and mother was William also and Margaret Bleasdale. Thomas's grandparents, no records of marriage etc. to confirm this. Still looking.

Looking for my grandfather Thomas Smith from Liverpool d.o.b 1st April 1900 (well he told us that no
Birth certificate matches)
Sent as a Home Children with his little sister Catherine/Katherine to Canada in approx 1910 when his was 10 years old.
Father name was Samuel occupation Labourer.
Does anyone have family from possibly West Derby way a large Family of Smiths sent two of their littlest or eldest children off to Canada to be rehomed.
Catherine/Katherine was adopted we think.
The saddest thing, at the dockside the two children got split up never to meet or see each other again. My beloved grandfather was traumatized by this all his life, and never got over losing his little sister.
Maybe anyone from Canada looking for Smiths in Liverpool England, where there grandmother was originally from may read this and contact me. Help Please.

As we know trying to trace the name of Smith is endless, and at times daunting.
This is an amazing project, and has today, just given me a little light at the end of the tunnel, and has lifted my spirits to find so many Smiths in one organized site is fantastic. Rather than, trawl through endless boring census and birth indexes.
Well done for this site.
Looking for a large family of Smiths from Liverpool in 1900, there must be for sure a connection
somewhere on your site. Thank goodness you started something quite spectacular for all the Smiths out there!!!!!

During the 19th century there were numerous Smiths in West Derby, just outside Liverpool. Confusion arises because sometimes they are listed as coming from Liverpool or Walton-on-the-Hill, but if West Derby could be mentioned as well as any other name, it would be a great help in putting the families. together.

We'll be glad to do whatever we can to help trace your Scottish Smith roots, if you'd care to please also post your interests on Smith Chat's "Around the UK & Ireland" Forum - on the Board for "Other Counties of ENGLAND, SCOTLAND, WALES". (See menu above left - go to Smith Chat Gateway - where you'll find a preview of the layout of Smith Chat and links to the Forum). If you post the details there that you have about William, Robert and Elizabeth, no matter how brief - its OK - we'll see you there later!! Also - more chance of other researchers of Scottish Smiths seeing your message there too.

Have a great weekend, Carole

Hi to you all,

Trying to locate my husband's half brother, who doesn't know he has three other brothers on this planet. The Mother was married very young to somebody called Williams, her name was Elizabeth Smith, born 02 March 1938 in Salford. My usband found out on his birth certificate, but she never told him the name of her first son or anything.
How can we find her 1st marriage ceritficate and how can we find out about her son? She never said whether he stayed with his Father or may be was adopted, nor the exact year of birth.
Can anybody help, please. WE'd love to find this man and tell him about all the other family he has got.
Any suggestions are very much appreicated.

Hi Carole
Penny (my other half) and I are visiting the UK on a family search/holiday from Australia. So far I have my Smith family back to David Gilbert Smith in Rotherhithe, Surrey in 1819 (perhaps Giles Smith c1790) so we may not have a Lancashire connection. I wish you well with your contined search activity and would be happy to help any Smiths searching for Australian connections.
best wishes, Peter & Penny Smith

I have found your site through Friends Reunited and I am very impressed. I was at DGS but my family were from Northumberland. However, my husband's family were from Horwich and district so I have lots of interest in Lancashire. The linked sites are always worth looking at. Many thanks for sharing all your work. best wishes, Sylvia

Well done Carole, the new site is looking good now, it all seems to be falling into place. I know you'll be glad when you've finished all these changes so that you can get on with updating the Smith interests list. You'll get there. Good work.
